A Magician Rarely Reveals His Tricks…
We may be entering a new era of search engine optimization. As Search Engine Journal has pointed out, Google recently made the unprecedented decision to publicly release its guidelines for search quality evaluation, following the latest major revision of those guidelines.
Google took care to point out that they won’t update the public document with every revision, but will try to keep people abreast of highly significant changes. For the time being, there is 160 pages’ worth of current guidelines for web masters and SEO professionals to review.
It stands to reason that as SEO companies from Los Angeles to New York scramble to fill in the gaps in their understanding of the Google search algorithm, competition for search rankings and new clients will become fierce. This could be very good for website owners, especially those who will be pursuing new contracts with local SEO companies.
If you’re in that situation and you have an opportunity to look over the latest Google guidelines, do so and keep them in mind when your local SEO company discusses what they can do for you. Their pitch should represent a wealth of knowledge drawn from the recently-released document. The more it does, the more likely they are to be capable of performing better than anyone in the industry could have done a month ago.
